The article below comes from the Blog of a
    firm called Digital Time Capture.
Digital Time Capture offers Timesheet Management Software to construction companies.  Here’s what Digital Time Capture says about
its software: “No longer do you need to
use separate timesheet and payroll software solutions for construction payroll.
DTC’s easy to use interface allows construction companies to capture payroll
data while automating payroll calculations and seamlessly integrating the data
    with any payroll system.”
Personally, I think articles like this one
should say here’s “how to USE LESS paper” rather
    than
say here’s “how to GO PAPERLESS”.
    From a
Reprographer’s perspective, the term “Go Paperless” is an anathema.
    One bullet
point that appears to be missing is “adopting the electronic take-off process”
(such as the process promoted by PlanSwift, the company now owned by Textura.)  Also, why bother to scan hard-copy plans when
digital files of those documents are likely available directly from the A&E
    firms who created those documents?
    “Going Paperless
    in the Construction Industry”
    Thursday, June
    20, 2013
    Being able to
access your documents from any location may have you thinking that your
construction company would benefit from going paperless. Though it may not be
practical for the industrial construction industry to do this completely, read
the suggestions below for tips on ways you can cut down on the amount of paper
    being stored at the office.
    Sort
    You must first
sort through your files into piles, ones for recycling, shredding and scanning
before you can begin reducing the amount of paper.
    Recycle
    This is a no
brainer. If you have ever heard of the show Hoarders
(http://www.aetv.com/hoarders/) you have probably considered that there are
mounds of paper at your office that you have forgotten about and do not need.
It takes a little work but it is simple, recycle any paper documents that are
no longer relevant to your company. You may be surprised what you find once you
begin looking. After you have scanned other important documents (see below)
    recycle these copies as well.
    Scan
    By scanning
documents, you are creating an electronic copy that can be stored in the cloud,
your company’s network, whatever works best for your company. Storing the
documents on the cloud will make your company information more secure, away
from any disaster that might happen to your office location. As mentioned,
keeping the paper copy will no longer be necessary and it can be recycled. This
will not only save you space but help keep your documents from getting lost.
    Reduce incoming
    paper
    Once you have
sorted, recycled, and scanned your company’s paper you need to find ways to
keep the mounds of paper from accumulating. Making it a company-wide adoption
to store only electronic versions of documents is absolutely necessary to
making sure paper does not accumulate.
    Here are some
more tips to help make this happen.
    Paperless
    Billing
    If your company
is mailing your bills to vendors and receiving payment by mail you may want to
explore your paperless billing options. Electronic billing makes payments
easier to keep track of while delivering features that help payments to go out
    on time.
    Get Rid of
    Post-its
    If you like the
physical appearance of a post-it and are a Windows user, Windows 7’s Sticky
Notes application allows you to write notes that appear on your desktop. Write
as many as you would like and place them anywhere on your desktop and they will
automatically save once you exit the application. Or check out many of the
other post-it type application available for your tablet or smartphone.
    E-signing
    To collect
signatures, you can avoid printing then re-scanning documents again by securely
sending documents electronically and having them signed in applications like DocuSign
    (http://www.docusign.com/).
    Utilize Your
    Tablet or Smartphone
    Often you can
also sign documents directly on your tablet or smartphone screen. Given a paper
document but you are not near your scanner? Apps such as Scanner Pro
    (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/scanner-pro-by-readdle/id333710667?mt=8&ign-
mpt=uo%3D4), allow you to take high resolution photos of your signed pdfs.
    Document
    Management system
    If you are still
overwhelmed by the amount of documents you have electronically stored, consider
using a document management system. It will capture, track, and store your
    electronic documents.

    When I
checked Textura’s stock price today, Textura shares were trading at $25.85 per
    share.
At that price, Textura’s market cap is
    approximately $555 million!  Yikes!
    In its most
recently reported quarter (Q1 2013), Textura reported sales
of $8.55 million and a net loss of $4.18
    million.

    I just
noticed this press release, which was issued by a realty company:
    “Travis
Reprographics, LLC leases 2,900 SF Warehouse”…..
    PRLog (Press Release)
May 10, 2013FORT MYERS, Fla. — Travis Reprographics, LLC
leased 2,900 SF of Warehouse and Office Space at 6381 Corporate Park
Circle #2 Fort Myers, FL 33966 from Landlink Group, Inc.. Chase Mayhugh, CCIM,
of Mayhugh Realty, Inc. represented the landlord.
After I read that press release, I
visited Travis Reprographics’ web-site, and found that the company’s main
address is at 6361 Corporate Park Circle, so it looks like they’ve added
    additional space – at 6381.
Congratulations to the Travis Repro team on its expansion.

Message from the Owner of Travis Reprographics:
    “From
    the Owner”
“My goal and prayer through this business is to reflect the love of God
and witness in such a way that we can show the extra mile mentality in our
service.  We also through financial support want to help other Christian
organizations who are like-minded in our community.  We also want the world to know Jesus Christ in
a real loving way. To experience Him in a personal relationship for here on
this planet and in heaven were he is preparing a place for us who believe in
    his salvation.”
“Several years ago, I added the cross  to our logo for just this
reason.  Then shortly after seeing the movie “The Passion of
Christ”, I decided that the cross on our logo would always be red to
remind us of the ultimate sacrifice of his blood for the forgiveness of our
sins.  I hope you have experienced this amazing grace and forgiveness.”
“Jesus came to serve.  That is what we do here in this business.
Serve our customer well and while that will always be a standard, we will
pray God will bless you and draw you to know Him personally.”
“From the heart of Travis Digital,
    Travis Jolliff, Sr.”

    Earlier today, I came
across a couple of fairly recent documents Service Point (the Spain-based
parent company) filed with the Spanish Bolsa Stock Exchange, and, for those of
you who follow developments with and at the two “publicly traded” companies who
are involved in the Reprographics Industry, I thought I’d share these documents
with you …. and add a few comments.
    We
previously posted a note on the Reprographics 101 Blog (back when it was being
published through the IRgA web-site) about SP’s Q1 2013 financial results
and full-year 2013 projections), and we aren’t going to make any further
mention of that.  But, here’s a link to
the report SP recently filed with the Bolsa Exchange, and please note that this
report is in Spanish.  If you want to read it in English, you can
download the document and then upload it to Google Translate.
    SP Q1 2013 Financial Results
    Going
further, this next document, Service Point’s most recent “Investor
    Presentation”
    is in English!  I enjoy
reading through SP’s Investor Presentation Documents; SP’s person who puts
these together does an outstanding job, graphically speaking!
    SP Investor Presentation (May 2013)
    A few comments about
the information in the Investor Presentation:
    As
to SP’s sales in the U.S., SP points this out:
“United States (8% of total group
    revenues):
The U.S. business showed clear signs of recovery
during the year 2012, and continues at the same rate of evolution during the
    first quarter of 2013.”
SP’s sales in the U.S. in
2012 were 15.9 million Euros, which, at an exchange rate of 1.30 works out to
    approximately $20.7 million US Dollars.
In previous posts on Repro 101, we’ve pointed out that SP’s U.S. Sales had
(back around 2005-6) reached the $43-$45 million USD range (per information we
received from an ex-President of the Service Point USA subsidiary.)
    In a previous note about
Service Point’s Q1 2013 financial results, we pointed out that we were a bit
fuzzy as to the status of SP’s 51%-owned French subsidiary (known at
    Reprotechnique.)  We previously reported
that Reprotechnique had gone through and completed a reorganization of its
debt, but, now that we’ve seen what SP says in its most recent Investor
Presentation, the picture – as to what’s going on with Reprotechnique – is much
    clearer.  Here’s the paragraph I’m
    referring to:
“Service Point sales in the first quarter amounted
to 46.2 M €, 15.7% by below those obtained in the same period last year, mainly
due to changes in the scope of consolidation
(out of France), changes in the conditions of invoicing
of certain contracts with customers in the Netherlands (which have no impact at
the level of margins) and the impact of Easter, which this year took place during
the month March. Excluding this impact, sales declined by 9.8%”
    And, going a bit further
on the point above (“out of France”) the Investor Presentation document, which
reveals SP’s “sales by country” (flags indicate the countries SP operates in) does not have a French flag! So, SP
does indeed appear to be “out of France.”
    Well, anyway, this was an
interesting development, SP “out of France”, for SP only bought into
    Reprotechnique in May 2008:
    “Barcelona, 24 April 2008 –
Yesterday Service Point Solutions S.A.(ticker: SPS.MC) has reached an agreement
to acquire a 51% (interest) in Reprotechnique
S.A., one of the leading digital business-to-business reprographics companies
in France with yearly sales in excess of 21 Mil EUR .
    SPS has agreed the
call option for the remaining 49% of the shares that can be executed in 2012.
Reprotechnique, founded in 1963, has a long and established market presence.
Since then, the Company has grown both organically and through acquisitions. The Company has national network of
approximately 20 locations and currently employs around 300 people
    .”
    From Reprotechnique’s home
page (copied off of home page and translated to English) on June 27, 2013:
“Since 1963, the group Reprotechnique mastery of
new technologies related to its business, digital printing, and leads a
permanent change that allows it to constantly adapt to the changing needs of
its customers in terms of copying. Since 14 May 2008, is part of Reprotechnique
Service Point Solutions and joins the No. 1 in Europe for document management
solutions. Service Point Solutions is listed on the Madrid Stock Exchange
    company. In total, approximately 120
    employees
, technical staff, sales engineers and consultants, operators and
deliverymen, spread over most of the country providing the best service
tailored to the needs of our customers.”
    Well, it “sounds like”
Reprotechnique, from May 2008 to the present day, went from 300 employees to
120 employees.  I had no idea that the
reprographics business in France had been rocked to that extent.  Wow!
    Recently, SP reached a
“standstill” agreement with its lenders and, in conjunction with that,
mentioned this in one of its filings:
“From the standpoint of equity, the company is
currently undergoing a financial deleveraging. After selecting a firm of professional
advice, the company is exploring various alternatives that can include the acquisition
of new resources or the divestment of certain assets, in order to get a solid
    boost in the capital structure.”
For those of you who like
to compare your own strategic plans with those developed by others in the
industry, I encourage you to view SP’s Investor Presentation.
SP’s share price closed at .11 Euro cents per share
    yesterday.

Portions of a Press Release issued by Toshiba
    America Business Solutions:
    IRVINE,
Calif. — To help change the paradigm of how organizations print while promoting
a new era of corporate environmental sensibility, Toshiba America Business
Solutions today introduces its e-STUDIO306LP/RD30 multifunction product (MFP).
    By
incorporating a unique toner, the leading managed document services (MDS)
provider and business printing solutions innovator’s new device is capable of erasing images and text output allowing for
    the reuse of paper
    .
The e-STUDIORD30 unit is where a
page’s output is erased. By applying heat, the toner color is effectively
removed, thereby erasing any output on the page. For archival purposes, the
eraser unit can also be configured to scan any documents to a network file
location or USB drive prior to performing the erasing.
Reusable paper – which has been
erased – is returned to the unit’s upper drawer while output that is unable to
be fully erased is sent to the e-STUDIORD30’s bottom drawer to be recycled.
    Blog Publisher’s comments:
    (1)
the easiest way to save paper is to
not print the document (to paper) in the first place.  Distribute an electronic version of the document.
    (2)
While this might save paper, there’s
a cost of labor involved – someone has to go to the unit to erase the paper.
    (3)
    OMG, I see government agencies
loving this new “erasable” feature. Saving paper, wasting time.

  • Joel,
This is a cute video that shows paper is not dead.

On the Reprographics 101 Blog on May 28th
and June 10th, we posted two notes about Fuji Xerox’s release of the
new “Docuwide C842” Wide-Format Color Inkjet Printer, and in the note we posted
on June 10th, we said this:
    “…… to go
a bit further, on March 1, 2011, Reprographics 101 broke the news that Xerox
(USA) was exiting the wide-format imaging equipment business in the United
    States.”
With the launch of this new, incredibly fast printer, is there the chance
that Xerox in the U.S. will resume offering wide-format equipment in the United
States?  If not, then how will Reprographers in the U.S. be able to
acquire this new Fuji Xerox wide-format printer?”
    Well, we now have an answer to that question;
yes, Xerox U.S. has re-entered the wide-format equipment marketplace.
Comment about the new Xerox IJP 2000 found,
two days ago, on the web-site of wirthconsulting.org …..
    “Xerox is
introducing the Wide Format IJP 2000, which it says gives print providers
the extra speed needed to produce more jobs faster. The Wide Format IJP
incorporates five color inkjet print heads,
and appears to be sourced from Memjet.”
And, here’s Xerox U.S.’ Press Release about
    this new wide-format printer:
    Jun 24, 2013
    ROCHESTER,
    N.Y. —
With the growing demand for large indoor posters, signs,
point-of-purchase graphics and banners, Xerox’s (NYSE: XRX) new Wide
    Format IJP 2000
gives printers the extra speed needed to produce
    more jobs faster.
    Increased speed means
printers can accept and produce more wide format jobs, even last minute
    requests.
InfoTrends expects the retail value of wide format printing in
North America to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 7.9 percent,
    reaching $23.6 billion by 2016.1
    “The IJP 2000 breaks
the mold in terms of speed and brings a huge competitive advantage to our
customers,” said Dustin Graupman, vice president, Inkjet Business, Xerox. “Part
of the challenge of wide format jobs is they can create a significant speed
bump in the work process – and profitability. That’s why we’ve designed an
uninterrupted operation right into the printer.”
    Key features of the
IJP 2000 single pass device include:

Faster print speeds: complete jobs more than 40 times faster than comparable
wide format systems (up to 4,520 square feet/420 square meters per hour). That
means high-quality, color signs can be printed in five seconds, 30 foot banners
in one minute and production runs of 200 prints in about 20 minutes.

    Stationary print
    heads:
allow the paper to move under five
print heads in one single pass; fewer moving parts mean better speed and less
    maintenance.

    High vibrancy with
    instantly dry ink:
    produce a variety of
full-color products – from tradeshow banners and presentation graphics to
life-size photos and promotional displays – with crisp, precise imagery.

    Expansive specialty
    media range:
    allow printers to
offer customers more choices in wide format applications, with media such as
banner fabric, photo gloss, satin and backlit/stoplight films.

    Industry-leading wide
    format workflow software:
    the Caldera
GrandRIP+ keeps the device running at full-rated speed while processing jobs.
The software is easy to use, even for new operators, and includes spot color
matching for a uniform look across different jobs and media.

Personalized software (optional): produce personalized materials quickly and
efficiently with Xerox FreeFlow® VI Design Express
software. This Adobe InDesign plug-in simplifies the design and creation of
variable signs; includes templates and step-by-step instructions.
    The IJP 2000 will be
on display at FESPA, June 25-29 in London, Xerox Stand Q39N and at PRINT 13,
    Sept. 8-12 in Chicago.
    Availability
    Order taking for the
Xerox Wide Format IJP 2000 begins in July.
