our portfolio of printers, PCs, mobile devices, solutions, and services, we engineer experiences
that amaze. More information about HP Inc. is available at http://www.hp.com.
    1. The HP DesignJet T830 24-inch and 36-inch Multifunction Printers are the most compact large-format devices performing print/scan/copy functions based on H x W x L specifications published as of October, 2017.
    2. The 2018 edition HP DesignJet T520 prints one page in 35 sec. Both models print multiple-page A4 or letter-sized jobs from the A4/A3 input tray at a rate of 6 pages per minute.
    3. Local printing requires mobile device and printer to be on the same network (usually Wi-Fi access points bridge wireless to wired connections) or have a direct wireless connection. Wireless performance is dependent on physical environment and distance from access point. Wireless operations are compatible with 2.4 GHz operations only. Remote printing requires an Internet connection to an HP web-connected printer. Wireless broadband use requires separately purchased service contract for mobile devices. Check with service provider for coverage and availability in your area. See http//www.hp.com/go/designjetmobility for more details.

    Release from ASG
Archimedia Solutions Group Announces Acquisition of B.L. Makepeace, Inc.
Combined On-Site Print Management Experience to Serve Architectural and
Engineering Community with Unprecedented Level of Customer Service
Danvers, MA – October 1, 2017 – Archimedia Solutions Group, a company dedicated
to on-site print management solutions for architects and engineers, today
announces the acquisition of B.L. Makepeace, Inc., a highly respected and
venerable supplier of engineering, construction and surveying supplies for more
than 120 years. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
With both companies serving the same marketplace, the acquisition allows
Archimedia to apply its progressive, solution-driven model to a much broader
client base and create a greater level of responsiveness and service across the
spectrum of equipment and supply sourcing, maintenance and service,
administration and advisory services associated with modern print technology.
Archimedia was formed in 2006 and offers on-site print management
including cost recovery solutions, technical support, and exceptional customer
service. While Makepeace has seen, and adapted to, many industry
transformations over the past century, the company today is a supplier of
Engineering, Construction and Surveying supplies from Oce, Canon, HP, Topcon,
    Seco and more.
“Based on the similarity of our missions and the amazing legacy Makepeace
has forged since 1895, we’re both humbled and honored to bring our two
companies together for continued success serving the architectural,
construction, engineering and surveying markets,” said Mark DiPasquale,
co-founder of Archimedia. “Our traits are nearly identical from high levels of
service and responsiveness to the implementation of solution-driven
innovations, Archimedia is extremely proud to be the caretakers of the
Makepeace legacy, its goodwill and the relationships it has built for more than
    a century.”
“Since the World War II era, Makepeace has grown under its current owners
and I am personally grateful to every employee – present and past – who has
contributed to our success,” said Paul Hallisey, president of B.L. Makepeace.
“Today is not the end of their efforts. Instead, we see this as a new beginning
with an even more successful future and we’ve entrusted Archimedia with our
company’s heritage because of the cultural fit we see between the two companies
and the services we will offer for generations to come.”
“We have experienced a decade of rapid and continual growth in markets
across the U.S. and already seen massive consolidation within the vertical,”
said Jane Simmons, co-founder of Archimedia. “When we were founded 11 years
ago, traditional copy centers were still very much a part of the marketplace.
However, our business model proved to outpace brick and mortar service
providers and now – by combing our two companies’ best practices – we have an
amazing opportunity to provide our new client base with significant benefits by
    applying a
    level of responsive
and flexible customer service by establishing greater control over technology
and ongoing support while also having access to the industries’ best supplies.”
Today’s acquisition will create a combined professional services team of
more than 60 employees operating in 28 states with a current primary service
area of suburban and metropolitan Boston, Hartford and Rhode Island.

  • Crisp
Imaging is the largest “independent” reprographics enterprise in the State of
    California.
      At the present time, Crisp
Imaging operates 8 locations (Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego
    markets).
    For those
of you who don’t know, or know of, Blain Topel, Blain is definitely  “a player” in our industry.  Blain worked at Rowley-Scher Reprographics
(Washington/Baltimore) back in the early 1980’s.  (I was with Rowley-Scher at that time, so I
do know Blain personally.)  Blain left
Rowley-Scher to open his own company, Topel Digital Imaging (Washington,
DC.)  Blain later sold Topel Digital
Imaging to ABC Imaging.  Blain was with
ABC Imaging for nearly 20 years, during which time ABC grew from a Washington,
DC operation into a semi-nationwide and international enterprise.  Blain was a senior officer at ABC Imaging.
Blain resigned from ABC Imaging sometime around June or July 2016.

    Hearty
congratulations to Blain and best wishes to him for outstanding success with
    Crisp Imaging!
  • Congratulations to Cory on his new position at Air Graphics.

For those of you who do not know, or know of, Cory, he is a
very experienced reprographics industry veteran.  (Emphasis on the word, “very.”)
It’s my understanding that Cory began working in the
industry at The Blueprint Company in New York City..  (I met John Deermount, former CEO of The
Blueprint Company, sometime back in the 1980’s.
    Great guy.)
After ARC acquired The Blueprint Company, Cory stayed on in
NY, but was later relocated to TRS (Tampa Reprographics) in Tampa (also by then
    an ARC-owned business.)  If my
recollection of this is correct, sometime after ARC acquired NGI (the business
I was formerly with), ARC merged the operations of NGI and TRS and, at some
point, Cory was with the ARC-NGI operation. That’s actually when I met Cory; I
was retired from NGI at the time, but on a visit to NGI’s HQ office in Tampa, I
was introduced to him by either Bob Paschal or Greg Williams.  Based on my discussions with Cory, it was
easy to tell that he was “a player.”
    (And an extremely nice guy.)
Prior to accepting a position with Air Graphics in Boston (Mike Cully made
a wise move to recruit Cory), Cory also spent time as the General Manager of
Bob Roperti’s Jiffy Reprographics’ operation in Clearwater, FL, across the bay
    from Tampa.
So, by my count (and I could be wrong about this), Cory has
been with these reprographics industry companies:
    The Blueprint Company (NY)
    Tampa Reprographics Services (Tampa, FL)
National Graphic Imaging-NGI (Based in Tampa, multiple
    offices in FL)
    Jiffy Reprographics (Clearwater, FL)
    Air Graphics (Boston MA)

  • What I’ve posted below is just the beginning of the article; there’s a
link below to get to the complete article.
Most reprographers offer scanning/archiving services.  Perfect for preservation of historical maps and architectural drawings.  While a City as large as NYC can afford to
have full time people dealing with map and drawing restoration, that’s not the
case with smaller cities and counties.
Dry Cleaning the City’s Oldest Maps
    – The New York Times
    The tables in
the basement of the Municipal Archives are
covered with household staples: cotton swabs, tweezers, food strainers,
measuring cups, ashtrays and other materials.
    None are items
that one would expect to find in a professional art conservation laboratory.
But they are tools used by a group of government workers who wash and care for
some of the oldest existing maps and architectural drawings of New York City.
    They call themselves “dry cleaners.”

    “It’s like being
a tailor, but a tailor for paper,” said Pauline Toole, commissioner of the
city’s Department of Records and Information Services, which oversees the
    archives at 31 Chambers Street
    — what was once the Hall of Records, but is now the Surrogate’s Courthouse.
    The building
is home to 243,000 cubic feet of records — enough to cover more than four
football fields — including maps, photographs, film spools and birth, death and
marriage certificates that tell the story of the city’s past. The last four years have seen a push from
researchers and archivists to digitize the annals, slowly making them
    more accessible to the public,
but many of the faded, fraying documents are
almost too fragile to endure that process, according to the conservators there.
Among the endangered records are hundreds of maps of post-colonial New York,
created as early as the 1700s, rolled tightly into cardboard wrapping and
stored in the city’s proverbial attic.

  • Canon has launched a completely
new line-up of large format inkjet printers: the imagePROGRAF TX-2000, TX-3000
    and TX-4000, available in 24-inch, 36-inch and 44-inch sizes.
    The new devices offer
productivity, usability and security, alongside beautiful print quality and low
running costs, making it ideal for both the high-end CAD inkjet market and the
entry-level LED plotter market. The series also includes an MFP solution,
imagePROGRAF TX-3000MFP T36 and TX-4000MFP T36, equipped with fast scanning,
and newly developed LUCIA TD pigment ink. With updates to all core technologies
including the ink system, print head and mechanical platform, the new
imagePROGRAF TX series printers are perfect for customers looking for
high-production, high-quality printing, in colour and at competitive
    speeds.
    Superior print quality with every
    sheet
The newly developed LUCIA TD ink
produces fine lines, sharp text and vibrant colours, making it perfect for
high-precision CAD drawings and posters alike. Specifically formulated for
weather resistance, including water resistance, printed drawings can be viewed
at outdoor construction or engineering sites, in long-term storage and on
outdoor posters. Thanks to superb colour reproduction even on plain paper, ink
performance exceeds the needs for poster quality on both coated and uncoated
    paper.
    Duncan Smith, Canon UK’s ,
states: “The world of print continues to change and Canon is pioneering in the
industry to ensure we’re delivering against the changing needs of our
customers. Where previously, CAD drawings were printed in centres using LED
plotters, today, many offices or construction sites require their own inkjet
printers to produce drawings on demand. In response to this, we’ve designed a
high performance, high-speed inkjet that’s ideally suited to replace
entry-level LED plotters that comes with a host of other advantages such as
colour printing, low TCO as well as unbeatable quality and sharpness.”
    Game changing productivity
All models in the imagePROGRAF TX
series, including the 36-inch, can be expanded with two rolls. The optional
dual-roll system enables high-volume printing from two rolls of the same kind,
or hassle-free switching between different media types to meet various printing
needs. The imagePROGRAF TX series also accepts rolls up to 170mm in diameter,
with the lower unit equipped with a multifunction roll system, enabling users
to take advantage of the continuous output and rewinding printouts on rolls. A
new high-capacity stacker also offers holding room for 100 A0 sheets, and can
be easily folded up to save space when not in use.
    The series includes an MFP
solution equipped with a 36 inch Colortrac scanner. The scanner features a
generous 15.6-inch touchscreen panel, streamlined structure, integrated design
and SmartWorks MFP version 5 with customisable menus and buttons. The new copy
and archive mode improves productivity and makes it ideal for supporting office
workflows, whatever the printing environment. The intuitive UI, straightforward
roll loading and direct printing from USB flash drives offer optimum usability.
    Powerful and secure printing
    With a powerful L-COA PRO
high-speed image processor, even data-heavy HP-GL/2 files such as electrical
CAD drawings with intricate lines can be processed quickly. In addition, newly
added disk encryption, protocol locking and secure data transmission makes the
imagePROGRAF TX series devices some of the most robust on the market, with
measures such as SNMPv3 and IPSec support to prevent leaks and intrusions.
    Hiroaki Shirakawa, LFP Product
Management Manager, Canon Europe, concludes: “The newest line-up of products
has advanced features to expand into higher-volume print markets, in a compact
model, suitable for any office size. The imagePROGRAF TX Series is dedicated to
a high balance between print quality, speed and productivity, alongside other
enhancements such as more reliable security. Fast printing, high-precision,
usability and compatibility with CAD systems are fundamental requirements for
both users of high-end inkjets and entry-level LED plotters. We’re looking
forward to launching our new product line-up this year. ”
    The new imagePROGRAF TX series
and their MFPs will be available across EMEA from early December 2017

  • To me,
this is “major” news, considering Casey’s tenure in the reprographics industry
and her most recent position with ARC.
    Casey is
one of my all-time-favorite people; she’s ultra-smart, and per discussions I
had in the past with two of her bosses from past times (Bill Berg and Bobby
Abrams, two of the former owners of MBC Precision Imaging), Casey is a terrific
team player and a very hard worker.  When
she puts her mind to getting something done, she can be very, very persuasive
(great attribute for anyone in sales.)
    Casey
joined ACONEX – as an Account Executive – last month (May 2017).
    Prior to
    that, she was….
    1)    a Senior Global Solutions
Executive with ARC – Feb 2016 to May 2017
    2)    a Global Solutions Executive with
    ARC – May 2009 to Feb 2016
    3)    a Vice President of Corporate
Operations with MBCPI – Jan 2006 to May 2009 (ARC acquired MBCPI)
    Casey
held various other positions with MBCPI – Mar 1997 to Jan 2006, and Casey also
served on the IRgA Board of Directors.
    After
being involved in the reprographics business and industry for 20 years, Casey’s
now made the switch to ACONEX.

  • This is from www.largeformatreview.com (a
    UK-based web-site):
Canon Europe confirms Océ Colorado 1640 as wide-format
    ‘breakthrough’ following FESPA
    Canon Europe, leader in imaging
solutions, had a landmark FESPA 2017 exhibition (Hamburg, 8-12 May 2017),
breaking new ground in high-end roll-to-roll print with the European launch of
the new Océ Colorado 1640, and celebrating a decade of wide-format innovation
with the tenth anniversary of the Océ Arizona series.
The new Océ Colorado 1640, built
on Canon UVgel technology, proved to be one of the star digital innovations of
the entire event, pulling in large crowds to hourly demonstrations, and
attracting immediate orders from signage and graphics producers across Europe,
Africa, North Africa and the Middle East.
    While celebrating the 6000th Océ
Arizona installation at Technipub in France, Canon Europe also achieved
significant sales of the Océ Arizona series flatbed printers during FESPA, both
from existing customers looking to scale up their production capabilities and
from first-time investors in Canon flatbed solutions.
    Mark Lawn, Director, Graphic
& Communications Group Canon Europe comments: “This was always going to be
a milestone FESPA for Canon, but we’ve been blown away by the market’s response
to the Océ Colorado and how it cements Canon’s reputation for innovation in the
wide-format sector. Mid-way through the show we had smashed every target we set
ourselves, right across our portfolio. Just two months after launching
Colorado, we now have 100 orders for the printer from customers in 17
countries, underlining the impact of its extraordinary mix of productivity,
quality, media versatility and cost of ownership.”
    He continues, “Signage and graphics
producers come to FESPA looking for ways to expand their capabilities and
differentiate their offering. This chimes 100% with our own philosophy of
helping print service providers evolve and grow through new applications and by
exploring new models to meet their customers’ needs. While the technology
highlight of the show for us was undoubtedly the Océ Colorado launch, our
bigger ambition at FESPA 2017 was to show PSPs how our whole technology
portfolio, supported by our deep insight into the key trends shaping specialist
sectors of the wide format market, enables them to access new revenue
opportunities and drive their business forward.
    “Bringing market insight,
practical advice, technology innovation and examples of diverse print
applications together, in our view, is the only way to truly demonstrate the
myriad opportunities for PSPs to push into new application areas to support
their growth. Feedback during the show suggests that our integrated beauty
brand campaign, as well as the two new printed ‘Think’ guides – Think Personal
and Think Décor – were extremely well received.”
    In addition to record-breaking
sales successes for Océ Colorado, Océ Arizona, Océ ProCut and imagePROGRAF, the
DreamLabo production photo printer and the imagePRESS sheetfed digital
production press also captured visitors’ imagination, with substantial order
intake for both products, underlining the appetite among PSPs to capture new
revenues by moving into alternative formats and products.
    Océ Colorado 1640 wins EDP
    technology award
    During FESPA 2017, the Océ
Colorado 1640 won a prestigious technology award from the European Digital
Press association (EDP) in the ‘Roll-to-roll Printers up to 170cm’ category.
The judging Technical Committee commented: “All current technologies have their
individual advantages but also their limitations. The Océ Colorado delivers
productivity and excellent output quality on a broad range of media. It may be
a game changer in the 1.6 metre segment, bringing more speed and prints at
lower costs with a unique machine concept. It shows in which direction we
possibly go it comes to more accurate inkjet printing.”
